During the afternoon of the third day of events in support of overseas military operations, a rally was held to honor military families, their loved ones serving in the armed forces, and their mission fighting the efforts to combat terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere around the world. Military family members and those who support them attended to show the nation and the world that they stand firm in their resolve to win the efforts to combat terrorism. Speakers included Congressmen, gold star family members of service men and women, veterans, media personalities, and Iraqi citizens. (Mr. Golding was a survivor of the September 11 terrorist attacks.) Several organizations sponsored "Support the Troops and Their Mission Weekend," a weekend of events to show support for America's military personnel, honor their families, and demonstrate a resolve that the missions of their loved ones fighting terrorism and protecting liberty in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world would be completed with victory and honor. Activities were held from September 23-26, 2005 in Washington, D.C. and were sponsored by various organizations including Operation Iraqi Hope, Move America Forward, Rightmarch.com, FreeRepublic.com, and Military Families Voice of Victory.
