Commissioner Peter Kirsanow’s speech topic was, “Racial Rebellion: The End of the Victim/Grievance Movement.” He was the newest member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001, but not seated on the commission until May 2002 after an intervention by the U.S. Supreme Court. A majority of commission members disputed his appointment and the Justice Department went to court to get Mr. Kirsanow on the panel. He talked about race relations and his experiences on the Civil Rights Commission, after which he answered audience members' questions. close
