House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) spoke to reporters about Speaker Boehner’s “Plan B” bill to avoid the “fiscal cliff.” He said that House Republicans had the votes to pass the legislation, which would raise income taxes on earners who make $1 million or more annually. He also said the House would remain in session after the vote so as to be available for further “fiscal cliff” work.

“Fiscal cliff” referred to the impending tax increases and sequestration budget cuts at the end of 2012 if Congress failed to reach a new budget agreement.*"Sequestration," a legal procedure in which automatic budget cuts are triggered, was agreed to in the Budget Control Act of 2011. close
