Experts in nuclear security examined President Obama’s goals for nonproliferation at a Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) briefing on the signing of a new U.S.-Russian Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) later in the week and the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C., the following week.
Andrew Kuchins explored President Obama’s plans on nuclear security and how U.S. relations have improved with Russia. Janusz Bugajski asserted that the Obama administration would not be making any grand agreement with Russia for allowing satellites over former Eastern nations. Sharon Squassoni talked about the upcoming nuclear summit. During the question and answer portion, questions focused on the political implications of the nuclear summit and the signing of the START treaty with Russia.
