The film, titled Good Night and Good Luck, focused on the confrontation between Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarty over the House Un-American Activities Committee. Following their discussion, the panelists responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Journalist Marvin Kalb, a CBS correspondent from 1957-80 and was the last correspondent hired by Murrow, moderated the panel.
The panel included George Clooney, who wrote, directed and acted in the film in the role of Murrow’s producer Fred Friendly; David Strathairn, the actor who plays Murrow in the film; and Grant Heslov, who wrote, produced and acted in the film in the role of CBS producer Don Hewitt. The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) hosted this event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C.
