Bob Edwards discussed his biography Edward R. Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism, published by Wiley. Mr. Edwards argues that CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow set the standards for broadcast journalism during the 1940s and 50s. Mr. Edwards describes Murrow’s coverage of World War II, his two programs “See It Now,” and “Person to Person,” and his reporting on the anti-Communist hearings led by Senator Joseph McCarthy. Also speaking at the event was Richard C. Hottelet, a former correspondent for CBS News who worked in London and Berlin during World War II and was trained by Mr. Murrow. The guests took questions at the end of the discussion. close
