Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg answered questions from members of his party and the opposition in the absence of Prime Minister David Cameron, who was in the United States. It was the first time in history a Liberal Democrat Leader has fielded questions during Prime Minister’s Question Time. Mr. Clegg sparred with opposition party representative Jack Straw over government loans to a steel manufacturer. He also dealt with questions about civil liberties, support for the elderly, and infrastructure development.

This was the last Prime Minister’s Questions before the House of Commons recesses for the summer. “Question Time” returns on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. close
