Undersecretary Hughes spoke at the Women’s Foreign Policy Group (WFPG) Tenth Anniversary Luncheon about a comprehensive strategy for public diplomacy. The said the pillars of the U.S. strategic framework were a support for freedom and opportunity for all; isolating and marginalizing the extremists and exposing their efforts to appropriate religion in the name of their violent agenda; education of the English language to foster of common interests and purpose between Americans and people of different country, cultures, and faiths throughout the world; and the empowerment of women. Following her remarks, Undersecretary Hughes received a gift from the WFPG.
