Commissioner Schneider announced new data on the achievement of U.S. high school students from the 2005 National Assessment of Educational Progress as shown in the report, “The Nation’s Report Card,” released by the Department of Education. The report contained information that more than 25 percent of high school seniors read below a basic level, while almost 40 percent were below basic levels in math. Other participants talked about the policy implications of the reports and responded to reporters' questions. close
