Panelists talked about Great Britain’s Proclamation of 1763, which forbade colonists from taking Native American lands, and worsened the relationship between the Colonies and Britain.

Part of the Treaty of Paris that ended the Seven Years War, Britain’s Proclamation of 1763 forbade American colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains. To the British, the proclamation was a way to prevent the Colonists and Native Americans from starting another costly war. However, many colonists viewed the proclamation as an attempt by the British to keep the colonies from becoming too independent. close
