In his first news conference since July 2009, President Obama talked about efforts to impose new regulations for offshore drilling and responded to criticism of the government’s reaction to the spill following and explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. In his remarks he admitted that the government was not skeptical enough of oil industry claims that large underwater spills could be avoided. Question topics included midterm elections, immigration, national security, Afghanistan, and financial regulations.
