Veronique de Rugy and Heidi Shierholz talked about the sectors of the U.S. economy that have improved and declined since the start of the Obama Presidency in January, 2009. Both Ms. de Rugy and Ms. Shierholz argued that the U.S. economy is weak, and that the declining unemployment rate is deceptive, as it is due primarily to people no longer actively looking for work. Ms. Shierholz suggested that the state of the U.S. economy is due to low demand, and that once demand increases hiring will also increase. Ms. de Rugy said that streamlining regulations and returning to free market policies will help the economy improve. close
