Mr. Jeffries discussed his new book, Judge Lewis F. Powell, Jr., a biography of the U.S. Supreme Court justice. Mr. Jeffries believes Justice Powell’s most important decision was his affirmative opinion in the Bache case which established affirmative action in hiring. He also had a part in opposing busing of students for the purpose of desegregating school districts.
