Mr. Wolfowitz and other officials discussed the problems facing some African countries. Following their remarks, they responded to questions and comments from members of the audience.
During the closed meeting, Mr. Wolfowitz, who noted that Africa was his high poverty, was challenged by Ambassador Poku of Ghana to “change the conventional wisdom regarding development in Africa” and dramatically expand assistance to infrastructure and agriculture, keys to cutting poverty on the continent.
The AGOA 3 Action Committee is a coalition of non-partisan and non-profit national and international non-governmental organizations, business leaders, and business groups working to end poverty in Africa and expand trade and investment in the poorest African countries.
