Jim Wallis, the founder and editor in chief of Sojourners magazine, talked about his book The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith and Politics in a Post-Religious Right America, published by HarperOne. A panel of evangelicals then discussed what political and social justice issues concerned evangelicals and the stereotypes in the media of who evangelicals are and what they wanted. Mr. Waldman introduced new survey results that said the issues of the economy, cleaning up government, access to health care and education, and reducing poverty were more important than stopping abortions and gay marriages. Other topics included AIDS relief and climate change. They responded to questions from members of the audience. Steve Waldman and David Kuo moderated.

The panel discussion titled “Choosing a President: What Do Evangelicals Want?” was sponsored by Sojourners and Beliefnet and took place at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. close
