Secretary of Labor Lynn Martin spoke at a breakfast sponsored by the National Conference of State Legislatures during their meeting of state and local officials in Washington, DC. Ms. Martin discussed the administration’s initiatives to produce jobs and a workforce to fill the jobs. She also discussed the recent violence in Los Angeles that occurred after the acquittal of four white police officers charged with beating a black suspect. She dismissed the call for blame for the incident, and called for initiatives to encourage public and private investment to create jobs. Following Ms. Martin’s remarks, the new Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs, Bobbie Kilberg, was introduced to the conference and delivered brief remarks.
