Lauro Martines talked about his book, April Blood: Florence and the Plot Against the Medici, published by Oxford University Press. He described the political feuds between the Pazzi family and the ruling Medici in Florence during the Italian Renaissance. The feud was brought to a boiling point after the Pazzis' failed assassination attempt of two Medici brothers in the cathedral of Florence, left only one dead. Lorenzo the Magnificent, the Medici brother who escaped, initiated a violent retaliation which would uncover the Duke of Urbino and the King of Naples as having a part in the conspiracy. After his presentation Mr. Martines answered audience members' questions. close
