Richard Trepagnier and Cheryl Hebert talked about the Plaquemine Lock and their family associations with the lock. When completed in 1909, the lock was significant for having the highest fresh water lift of any lock in the world at 51 feet and a unique engineering design that utilized a gravity flow principle. The lock served its purpose by providing a short-cut from the Mississippi River into Louisiana’s interior. They talked about the history and operation of the lock and how it was closed and how it was preserved.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2011 LCV Cities Tour” in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 27-December 2 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed.
