Participants and guests celebrated the 50th anniversary of the

Marshall Plan at the National Building Museum. The European Recovery

Program, named after Secretary of State George Marshall who

formulated it, provided material assistance to Western Europe after

the devastation of World War II. Participants talked about the

importance of the program and how it created a legacy for close

cooperation between Western Europe and the United States. German Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s remarks are translated by an interpreter. Actor Cliff Robertson portrayed General Marshall and delivered Marshall’s remarks upon winning the 1953 Nobel Peace Prize. Music was provided by the U.S. Army Chorus. close
