Peruvian President Alan Garcia was inaugurated during a ceremony in Lima. After taking the oath of office, he addressed the Peruvian Congress. Topics included expanding Peru’s economy, reducing poverty, and cutting government spending and corruption.

Alan Garcia won election to a five-year term as Peruvian president on June 4, 2006. He replaced Alejandro Toldeo, who did not seek re-election. President Garcia previously served as Peruvian president from 1985-1990.
