President Bush was joined by Defense Department officials and members of the Cabinet to dedicate a memorial to the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon. Following the reading of the names of victims accompanied by a Navy honor guard ringing a bell, President Bush and others spoke about the sacrifice and valor of both the victims and rescue workers who responded to the attack. The ceremony also included several musical tributes, the playing of “taps,” and an official viewing of the benches comprising the memorial.
