Defense Secretary Leon Panetta held his probable final news conference. He began by thanking the Pentagon press corps and announced the creation of a new military award, the Distinguished Warfare Medal. He addressed such issues as North Korea’s nuclear program, the troop drawdown in Afghanistan, and sequestration defense budget cuts. He also remarked that he was “disappointed” and “concerned” by congressional partisanship, and that he often felt a lack of “a full partnership with my former colleagues on the Hill in trying to do what’s right for this country.” close
