Panelists talked about U.S. relations with Russia as the country prepared for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Topics included the security situation, public perceptions, political suppression, and the origins of the extremist groups threatening to attack during the events. Russian policy expert Ilan Berman said the security situation was “tenuous at best.” He stated that President Putin’s government had not done enough to prepare, with one-third of the allocated funds wasted due to corruption.
