Newton Minow is the vice chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates as well as the co-chair for the 1976 and 1980 presidential debates. He talked about the history of American presidential debates and how they were originally organized. He offered several critiques on the current state of the format that ranges from his interest in allowing the audience to participate more often to discouraging prepared speeches from the candidates. close
