Moderated by Mr. Taylor, prize-winning nonfiction writers described how they found and developed the ideas for their popular nonfiction books. After their remarks they answered audience members' questions.

Ms. Greene, twice a National Book Award finalist, is the author of Last Man Out, The Temple Bombing, and Praying for Sheetrock. Her current project is a book about Ethiopia’s AIDS orphans, of whom she has adopted two. Mr. Junger, the author of The Perfect Storm and Fire, won the National Magazine Award for 2000. He is at work on a book about a 1963 murder. Mr. Sides, winner of the 2002 PEN USA Award, is the author of Ghost Soldiers, Americana, and Stomping Grounds. He is at work on a narrative history about the Indian Wars of the American Southwest. Ms. Sobel is the author of Longitude and Galileo’s Daughter, a 2000 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in biography.
