Professor Lewy talked about his book The Armenian Massacres in Ottoman Turkey: A Disputed Genocide, published by University of Utah Press. He described the Armenian Massacre of 1915 which took place in the Eastern part of the Ottoman Empire during World War I. He examined both the Turkish and Armenian sides of the conflict and proposed that a number of the Armenian deaths were caused by illness and starvation during their relocation to the mountainous regions of Turkey. He explained the contrasting opinions of incidents during the conflict and compared the events of the Armenian massacre to those of the Holocaust. After his presentation he responded to audience members' questions. close
