Mr. Mailer discussed his book, Oswald’s Tale: An American Mystery, published by Random House. It examines the life of Lee Harvey Oswald after he defected to the Soviet Union at the age of nineteen. It provides a wider view on the absurdity of the Cold War through the eyes of this man who became disillusioned with both countries, but it is not focused on whether or not Mr. Oswald was the sole assassin of President Kennedy. Mr. Mailer uses FBI transcripts and recorded dialogues to argue that the murder occurred in order to promote a new kind of society superior to American capitalism.
