Senate Committee on Finance Chair Orrin Hatch (R-UT) talked about corporate inversions and their role in business tax avoidance. A corporate inversion is when a company re-incorporates abroad or merges with a foreign company in order to reduce its corporate tax burden. Senator Hatch said inversions were symptomatic of a dysfunctional tax code, but that it would be better to overhaul the whole code rather than attempt to make patches. He said that the pace of inversions would because a system was needed that would encourage investment and growth within the U.S .
