In an interview, Representative Charles Rangel described taking part in the 1978 debate to televise the U.S. House of Representatives. He voted in favor of televising House sessions, and still believes that the benefits of allowing the public to be informed outweigh the cost of individual legislators sometimes being more interested in getting on television than in having a serious debate on an issue. close
