First Lady Michelle Obama and C-SPAN StudentCam Contest First Prize Middle School Winner Matthew Shimura talked about fighting childhood obesity, the subject of Matthew’s video and part of Mrs. Obama Let’s Move initiative. In addition, Mrs. Obama took calls from other students who submitted StudentCam videos about obesity.

Matthew attends the Punahou School in Honolulu, HI, a K-12 school. It is the largest coeducational, independent school on a single campus in the United States. President Barack Obama also attended Punahou School from 1971 to 1979 during his childhood years in Hawaii.

C-SPAN Classroom’s StudentCam video documentary contest was a national competition in which middle and high school students produced a documentary focusing on one of the country’s strengths or a challenge the country is facing. close
