Panelists talked about the future of the NATO military alliance, and its missile defense capabilities. Panelists included a former U.S. Ambassador to NATO and several former Defense Department officials. Retired General James Cartwright said that many countries don’t want U.S. military presence on their soil, which includes both missile and missile defense systems. He also argued that we do not have the financial means to keep up with our aspirations, and cannot afford standing armies that we have now. close
