Gary Samore talked about the prospects for a deal on Iran’s nuclear program. He argued that the National Intelligence Estimate statement that Iran has halted its nuclear weapons program gave a misleading impression that the danger had passed and weakened the efforts for strong international sanctions. He pointed out that Iran is still enriching uranium as fuel for nuclear reactors that it does not have, leaving it in a position to quickly produce weapons. He talked about factors influencing any negotiations with Iran. Robert Litwak commented on his remarks. Following this, Mr. Samore answered questions from members of the audience.
