The officials talked about the causes of the August power outage that effected large parts of the eastern United States and Canada. They said that a number of factors, including human error, poor communications, inadequate training, and insufficient maintenance combined to allow the blackout to reach such a significant magnitude. They also stated that all nuclear power plants had performed well, and that there was no evidence of terrorism or other foul play. Following prepared remarks, the officials responded to questions from reporters.
