Mr. El Baradei, the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, spoke about nuclear defense technology, saying countries that possess nuclear programs should move away from their nuclear defenses to set a better example for Third World countries. He discussed the mistrust, lack of government and security balances in the Middle East. He also spoke about the recent remarks by Iran’s president that Israel should be “wiped off the map.”

Professor Holdren, the Teresa and John Heinz Professor of Environmental Policy, introduced the guests and gave the opening remarks. Professor Allison, the Douglas Dillon Professor of Government, led the 90-minute discussion before about 600 students, faculty, and local residents. Following the discussion, Mr. El Baradei responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
