Democratic senators met with reporters shortly after the end of nearly 39 continuous hours of debate on judicial nominations. Senator Daschle reaffirmed his position not to vote for cloture on certain federal judicial nominations. Senator Kennedy characterized the nominees as “neanderthals” and “turkeys.” The senators and speakers from other groups asserted that refusal of cloture was a victory for women and minorities.
