The Republican National Committee recently appointed a commission to examine proposals that would change the party’s presidential primary calendar. Commission members and political science professors discussed the pros and cons of caucuses and primaries and also the consequences of the front-loaded primary schedule now in place. The rotation of regional primaries was suggested. Most participants said that a major overhaul of the primary system was needed and that this should be the responsibility of the national parties. close
