Telephone lines were open for women to comment on the House version of the Violence Against Women Act. The legislation excluded Senate-passed provisions to extend protections to Native Americans, lesbian, gay, and transgender Americans, and illegal immigrants. The bill passed 222-205, with 23 Republicans in opposition and six Democrats in favor.
