Andrew Weissmann, general counsel for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, talked about new technologies and the challenges the FBI and other law enforcement agencies face in getting private communications records for criminal cases. He said the ability to intercept communications with a court order was becoming obsolete. Topics included the Supreme Court’s decision in the Jones case in the previous term, “going dark,” and cyber security initiatives. He responded to questions from members of the audience.

“Legal Challenges Posed by New Technologies” was the speech at an American Bar Association Standing Committee on Law and National Security luncheon program at the National Press Club. close
