Gubernatorial candidates held their fifth and final debate in the New Jersey governor’s race. Senator Corzine and Mr. Forrester discussed the negative tone surrounding the last few weeks of the campaign. The host played negative television commercials from each campaign, including a disparaging ad from the Republican candidate quoting Senator Corzine’s former wife as saying “he’ll probably let New Jersey down.” The candidates exchanged accusations for the majority of the program before discussing any substantive issues.

Mr. Pressman hosted the debate, which was held inside the studios of WNBC-TV in New York City. The election for governor was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005.
