Richard John talked about his book Network Nation: Inventing American Telecommunications (Belknap Press of Harvard University Press; May 1, 2010). In his book he places the history of telecommunications within the broader context of American politics, business, and discourse. He talked about the history of development and regulation of the telegraph and of the telephone, including the concept of universal service and the role of the U.S. government in the development of these technologies.
He was interviewed at the 102nd annual meeting of the Organization of American Historians, held Wednesday, April 7 to Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Hilton Washington.
