The retiring governor of Oregon was interviewed at the National Governors' Association meeting. Gov. Neil Goldschmidt became the youngest mayor in the nation when he was elected in 1972 as mayor of Portland. He has served as secretary of Transportation in the Carter administration and has been a successful business executive in addition to serving as governor since 1987. He discussed his recent decision not to seek reelection following a separation from his wife. close
