Mr. Panetta and Mr. Lader testified concerning the president’s National Performance Review plan to revamp the federal government by reducing spending and increasing responsiveness. The hearing was in response to the release of the report and it’s monetary implications. The review calls for the elimination of 250,000 federal jobs over the next five years, a claim of $108 billion in savings and elimination highway demonstration projects. The committee questioned as to how theses savings and efficiencies are to be achieved. close
