The subcommittee considered the budget reauthorization for the National Institutes of Health. This was the fourth in a series of hearings on biomedical research. It examined basic questions of research in cancer, heart disease and preventative health. Some witnesses argued that the research community is biased against women in the selection of research topics and research subjects.
