James Lee Witt talked about today’s ProtectingAmerica.org press conference calling upon the new Congress and President-elect Obama to establish a comprehensive national catastrophic insurance backstop. The organization’s mission is to work on ways to increase public awareness, and improve preparation, mitigation, response and recovery programs with respect to natural catastrophes such as hurricanes and earthquakes. Mr. Witt also discussed his thoughts on what the next administration should do about disaster relief, the current administration’s record on it, lessons learned from Rita and Katrina, and responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.
