Lt. Colonel John Nagl talked about The U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual, originally released as a government document in December 2006 and now published by the University of Chicago Press. Colonel Nagl, a veteran of both Operation Desert Storm and the current war in Iraq, was a contributor to the book and wrote its foreword. The book was prepared under the guidance of General David Petraeus who currently is leading the U.S. troop “surge” in Iraq and will report on the effectiveness of the strategy in the coming week.

The guest interviewer was Sean Naylor, the author of Not a Good Day to Die: The Untold Story of Operation Anaconda.

Colonel Nagl also co-wrote Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya and Vietnam and wrote the foreword to a new edition of Instructions for American Servicemen in Iraq during World War II, both published by the University Of Chicago Press. close
