Members of the Independent Inquiry Committee spoke to reporters about their final findings regarding the role of private companies in the Oil-for-Food (OFF) Program. They found that 2,200 companies from 66 countries paid a total of 1.8 billion in kickbacks and illicit surcharges to Saddam Hussein’s government. The investigators criticized the UN Secretariat and Security Council for failing to monitor the program. Following their remarks, they responded to questions and comments from the reporters. close
