Colonel David Hackworth talked about his book, Steel My Soldiers' Hearts, a memoir of the Vietnam war written with his wife, Eilhys England. In the book Mr. Hackworth returned to Southeast Asia with orders to take command of the 4th battalion, 39th infantry. He explained how he used the hit-and-run tactics from his 1966 handbook to transform the troops into a mobile counter-guerrilla force. close
