Former FBI director Louis Freeh talked about his autobiography My FBI: Bringing Down the Mafia, Investigating Bill Clinton, and Fighting the War on Terror, published by St. Martin’s Press. In the book, he discussed his career at the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as his life as a prosecutor and judge. He gave an account of the American intelligence community’s capabilities in the years preceding the attacks of September 11, 2001. Mr. Freeh said that the terrorist attacks on the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1998 and the USS Cole in a Yemeni port in 2000, stemmed from an intelligence failure established by a political environment unaware of the severity of global terrorist threats. Following his presentation, Mr. Freeh responded questions and comments from members of the audience. He also commented on his relationship with former President Clinton, his time spent as a field agent working on organized crime cases, and his activities since leaving the FBI.
