In a roundtable discussion titled “Talking with the Islamic World: Projecting a Positive Image,” participants talked about depictions of the Western and Muslim worlds through the media and public discourse from various government officials. Among the issues they addressed were means to articulate American goals and policies to the Muslim world, reaching Muslim populations outside the Middle East, the potential impact of U.S. efforts to combat terrorism at home and abroad, and the degree to which media messages distort diplomatic policy.
