The Commission on Civil Rights sponsored a hearing on multiculturalism in American education during its two day series of hearings on rising racial and ethnic tensions in America. Witnesses to the hearing discussed the introduction of curricula in American schools concerning the history and cultures of many racial and ethnic heritages rather than the single curriculum of the history and culture of Western Europe.
